John Purcell

Family stories say Charles Purcell was the son of John Purcell, who fought in the Revolutionary War. There was at least one John Purcell who did fight in that war, but no documentable evidence has been found that he was the father of our ancestor Charles.

John Purcell's place and date of birth are unknown. Son Charles was born in Virginia. The family later moved to Tennessee. John Purcell fought in the Revolutionary War, in Light Horse Harry Lee's Brigade (family legend, not proven).

Place and date of death unknown. Nothing is known about John's wife. It is known that Charles was already married and had several children when he moved to Illinois, so it is probable John and his wife died in Tennessee.
