James Eli Robb

Martha Ann Young

James Eli Robb was born 21 November, 1807, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Martha Young was born 5 April, 1805.

They were married 12 September, 1826, in Maury County, Tennessee.

James Eli Robb and Martha Ann moved to Montgomery County, Illinois, then on to Marion County, Illinois in about 1820, and settled where Kinmundy now stands in 1832. He had a nice farm, and was one of the pioneers of Marion County. Marion County land records show Eli obtained his first 80 acres by land warrant, and two years later another 80 acres at $2.50 per acre. The land was all adjoining and in Kinmundy Township. He was a Democrat and a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was ordained as a ruling elder, and appointed session clerk in 1846.

They had nine children, all born in Foster Township, Illinois:

Eli Robb died 7 July, 1854, at a camp meeting where a cholera epidemic broke out. He is reportedly buried in his feather mattress there on a creek bank which is known as the Presbyterian Camp Ground Cemetery near Kinmundy (also known as Shanghai or Eagan Cemetery). James Robb and Daniel Doolen were appointed guardian of the three minor children. Martha was given $19.41, and the six older children received $4.31 as their share of the estate after all claims were paid. Martha A. Robb died 21 December,, 1888, and is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy, Illinois.
