Mary Whaley
James Jones birth date is unknown.
Mary Whaley was born 1 March, 1771, in Virginia.
James and Mary had eight children, all born in Georgia. James died in 1813, some family descendants say he was killed by Indians in Mississippi or Georgia. In about 1818 Mary came to Madison County, Illinois. In 1826 they located to Marion County, Foster Township, Illinois. One source says that she came with all eight children, and six of the children remained in Marion County, and died there, two moved to Texas and remained there until their deaths. Another source says she came with four children. It is known that son James preceded the family there in 1814. Son James may have returned to Georgia and assisted the family in moving to Illinois.
