Elijah Albert Chance

Elijah A. Chance, known as Albert, was born 3 December, 1831, in Marion County, Illinois.

Anna Jones was born sometime in 1840, in Marion County.

Albert Chance was one of 16 children, and his father James Chance was a very well known person of the time. Albert was first married to Lucinda Smith, and had four children by her. Lucinda died when she was 35 years old, and Albert then married Anna Jones. They had five children:

Albert Chance served in the Civil War as a Corporal, Company F, 7th Regiment, Illinois Cavelry. He entered service 8-1-1862 and was dicharged 7-12-1865, at Louisville, Kentucky. His military papers state he was 6'2", fair complexion, blue eyes, black hair, and occupation - farmer. His application for military pension stated he had contracted scurvy, and had been wounded by deep saber cuts to both arms at Coffeeville, Mississippi, on 10-15-1864. His request was not approved due to "no evidence of alleged wounds."

Anna Jones died of dropsy when Hattie Chance was twelve years old (1895). Albert Chance later married a Barnett, no known children. One of Albert's brothers, William, married Dolly Doolen, daughter of Daniel Doolen Jr.

Albert Chance died 12 November 1912 at Franklin County, Illinois. He is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thompsonville.
